Long Evening Dress
Long Evening dress are meant for special occasions. Accordingly, they are crafted out of luxury fabric material such as silk, velvet, satin. chiffon and taffeta. Evening gowns go well with heels for formal occasions. Different kinds of dresses suit different kinds of events. Some of them are described here:
Ball gowns – This is the most formal of attires worn by women on social occasions. In the nineteenth century the skirts of the gowns used to be huge and heavy with body hugging tight-fitted bodice. Traditionally, a ball gown is a full-skirted frilled, or otherwise, gown touching at least the ankles of the woman who’s wearing it. These are worn on formal “white-tie” events and are supported by a long list of accessories contributing to etiquette. These are also known as ladies’ white-tie attire and the essentials which must be included are
- Ball Gown which could either be a ballerina (to the ankles)or full-length(to the floor)
- Gloves which should be opera length in case they’re worn,
- Jewelery which includes necklace and earrings. While bracelet and rings are optional, a watch should not be worn unless it is a jeweled version which resembles a bracelet.
- Dancing shoes are formal pumps, sandals, flats or ballet slippers
- Handbag should be a small evening bag or clutch style
- A stole, a cloak, a cape or an opera coat should accompany the gown
Cocktail Long Evening dress – Meant to be worn on semi- formal occasions, a cocktail dress does not have to follow an etiquette rules list. The length of the dress too depends on the contemporary fashion and the comfort level of the wearer. These are not as elaborate as the ball gowns but can be worn for semi-formal dances. The dresses we call cocktail dresses now were known as afternoon dresses prior to the mid-twentieth century. The first time when the term “cocktail dress” was used to refer to early evening wear, was in the late 1940s.
- A dress with the length ranging from just above the knees to the ankles
- It can be matched with a comfortable pair of heels or flat sandals
- Jewellery is optional as it depends on the wearer
- A glittery handbag complementing the dress
Wedding gowns – The wedding dress is worn by a bride during the wedding ceremony. It is highly motivated by the culture and religion to which the wearer belongs. The style and the length of the dress is fashion dependent. It varies across the globe and differs even within a country. The colours of the dress largely depend on the theme chosen for the wedding ceremony and the personal liking of the wearer. However, most people prefer traditional colors and styles, and their most precious jewellery to go with it.
The various styles for a wedding gown may be as different as the personality of the wearer. With more and more people opting for beach style weddings, long evening gown style is much in vogue these days. One could choose from styles as varied as a princess-line bodice and a full skirt to an asymmetrical draped bodice and full skirt to a one-shoulder dress to a full length strapless wedding dress, so on and so forth.
Bridesmaid’s gowns- Bridesmaid’s gown and flower girl gowns are as important to be careful about as the bride’s dress. It is worn by a young woman of marriageable age who attends to the bride on the latter’s wedding day. These look best in a tiered pattern whether long or short. Shoulder-less short skirt or long trailing gown look elegant and stylish. It should be chosen by the bride herself because it needs to complement her bridal gown. It has to be both gorgeous and glamorous.
Prom dresses – Prom is actually a short form for Promenade or a formal black-tie dance held for high school students. Prom dresses must be striking enough so that they can get one noticed. The dress must be such which can win the Prom Queen title. The prom is part of a popular culture in the United States and Canada. Yet the attire worn there is largely traditional where girls wear traditional long gowns and a corsage usually given to them by their dates. Prom dresses are, for most girls, their one of the first date dresses and therefore hold a special importance. A wrapped bodice and a layered floor-length fabrication of the long gown looks both opulent and stunning.
